A young boy saved his father’s life after he suffered a stroke early Sunday.

Oregon State Patrol officials say the quick thinking of Dax Paget kept his father alive. Shortly after 7 a.m., troopers received a report from a Spokane County dispatcher that they had received a call from a Racheal Bardwell saying her son had called her and said his father was “sick.”

Officials were able to trace the call from a tower near Stanfield, Oregon. Troopers shortly called the phone and the boy was able to help pinpoint their location on Interstate 84.

The boy, who was visiting Oregon with this father, had remembered how his parents told him to unlock their phones and make emergency calls. The father, 46-year-old Robert Paget, was taken to Good Shepard Medical Center in Hermiston, then transferred to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland.

Although he is listed in critical condition, he is showing signs of improvement and expected to survive what officials say was a stroke. The father began to get sick behind the wheel, and was able to pull over, after which the boy called his mother, then helped direct emergency crews to their location.

Dax has been praised by Washington and Oregon State Patrol troopers as a real hero, because without his actions, his father might not have survived.

Oregon officials have released some of the audio from 911 and emergency dispatch conversations . The image below is from one of the trooper dash cams, and shows an officer talking with Dax after he and his father were located.
