Beware Scammers Calling About Your HAPO Account
A few weeks ago I received several phone calls from 866-750-9107 telling me my HAPO account may have been compromised and they were going to cancel my card unless I told them otherwise. The message asked me to dial in my bank account number and a teller would discuss with me the charges in question and help protect me.
I was nervous that maybe my account had been compromised, but I was also nervous to give my bank account number to anyone calling me. I immediately contacted HAPO. They said they were not familiar with a wide-spread scam, but told me to NEVER give out my bank account number. The representative said HAPO – and every other credit union or bank – already has its clients’ information. The only thing they’ll ever ask you for is proof of identity.
When I called the mysterious number back to get more information from them, the message said it was a voicemail service. Obviously a scam.
Be careful if you get a call from this number or any other number asking for your personal information they should already have!
