My father was a nose-gunner on a B-24 Liberator in the European Theater. He arrived in England after D-Day, when he saw the opening sequence of “Saving Private Ryan” (what many D-Day Veterans claim is the best re-enactment of a real life horror) he wept. I had never seen my Father cry my entire life, that’s how powerful the film version is of what has been called “The Longest Day“.
I’ve read that 600 D-Day / World War II veterans a day pass away… The “Greatest Generation” earned that title.
